Positiv anzumerken ist, dass man sich nicht nur Eigenheiten der Sprache aneignet, sondern auch allgemeingültige Prinzipien. Gekauft habe ich mir das Buch, weil ich Prinzipien für moderne Softwareentwicklung nicht nur theoretisch erlernen wollte, sondern auch gleich praktisch anwenden will.Ich implementiere die abgedruckten Code-Beispiele immer selbst als Übung. Verständlicherweise wird nicht immer der ganze Quellcode im Buch abgedruckt, aber leider ist dieser auch nicht online verfügbar.
This book really needs an editor! There is barely a paragraph without grammatical errors and the writing is awful. The book is about the importance of being dilligent with your programming, yet is written in a very sloppy way. The importance of code and comments being precise, concise and clean are stressed, but not applied to the book itself. If the author cannot be bothered to follow his own advice, I have to assume that the content of the book is of equal quality. Don't buy it.Where arguments are made, I find them often just waffling with little hard evidence presented. A typical bad example is on optimization on p60: we all know that premature optimization is an error. Why not back it up with a nice example (calculation, profiling data) illustrating it instead of half a page of buzz-words?After page 60 I put it aside.
